Since I recently posted an email about Naughty Ripley, I thought I better follow up with a post about Angel Ripley (who usually lives here, I promise). Since Ripley's 2nd birthday, we have asked birthday party attendees to bring a donation instead of a gift. That year we donated new toys to Children's Hospital (thank you Veldhuizens for letting us borrow this idea), and in following years we collected toys for a local battered women's shelter, books for our preschool library, and children's books for a church in post-Ike Galveston, TX. Early on, we would "help" Ripley decide where she'd like to designate the donations, but this year Rip came up with the idea all on her own.
"Mama, I want to collect things for the dogs!"
So this year we asked the party goers to bring donations for the animals at Denver Dumb Friends League. We received a little bit of everything off of the DDFL wish list, including peanut butter, paper towels, tuna, baby food (those baby kitties have to eat something, you know), old towels, treats, food, and more. THANK YOU to all who contributed!
A few weeks ago, Ripley, Emma, and I headed down to the DDFL Buddy Center in Castle Rock to deliver the bags of donations. Ripley also made a special note for the dogs...
My scanner chopped off the top part where Rip wrote "Age: 6"
The bottom part says "Dear dogs: I am celebrating my birthday with you!"
Ripley was really proud to bring the note to the folks at DDFL. A few days ago, Ripley received this in the mail...
The coloring book is darling -- it's all about adopting a pet from the shelter.
I'm really proud of Miss Rip, not only for wanting to help the animals but for using her artistic abilities for good instead of evil this time.
