I just sent out the latest Green Guys and Gals List, in which I posed a new challenge.
This week, give things a Second Thought.
What does it mean to Give Things A Second Thought? Here are some examples:
When you walk into the grocery store, give it a second thought – Where is my reusable grocery bag that I keep meaning to bring into the store?
When you walk out of the store and start your car, give it a second thought – Am I sitting here with the car idling unnecessarily?
When you walk through your house in the middle of the day, give it a second thought – Do I really need all of these lights on when the sun is coming in my windows?
When you reach for another plastic water bottle, give it a second thought – Could I fill up a reusable glass instead?
When you finish charging your cell phone, give it a second thought -- Do I need to leave the charger plugged into the wall now that it's no longer in use?
The idea is to take a moment to examine your own habits, good or bad, so that you can be in control to change or break those habits, if you so choose.
Most people WANT to do something to help the environment, to have a little less impact on Mother Earth, but many folks don't know where to start. It can be overwhelming. Why not start with a little green thing, a small change to your habits? Most little green things that I've add to my life are just that -- a change of habit.
Try giving things a Second Thought this week, and let me know what you found out about yourself by posting a comment.
And make sure to read yesterday's post about my dad's latest change of habit!
