Back from a great week in Galveston, TX visiting with my folks and friends and a short weekend trip to Vail with James and Rip. What fun! Here are a few of the highlights:
"Schlitterbumps" (real name Schlitterbahn). A huge water park in G-town that is actually "convertible", meaning that part of the park stays open during rainstorms because the roof closes! We have been there during one of these storms, and once the lightening starts you have to be out of the water. Rip LOVES this place.
Fishing off LaLa and Fwey's pier (my folks). R has fished Gore Creek up in Vail, but as she said "But there weren't any fish!". She caught her first real fish, a little trout, off my parents' pier.
The pool with the Hannigans. Stephanie, Casey, Regan and Colin drove in from Corpus Christi to visit with us and with their families, and we spent a day at the pool and an overcast day at the aquarium.
Out with my high school friends. This was a blast -- Thanks to all my buddies who drove down to the Floating G to hang out -- Steph, Casey, DJB, Brent, Joey-Michelle, Blake and Kelly -- and thanks to JoeyM for the pictures. Here's the funny part (well, one of the funniest parts) about that night: We are officially OLD, and this is why. We had to ask the bartender at The Lounge to turn down the music, not once but TWICE. We are OLD.
The Beach. I don't know if there is anything more entertaining than watching a 3-year-old playing at the beach. Sand, surf, seaweed (yuck), seashells, and sunscreen. And the biggest SMILE you've ever seen. We were lucky enough to have my parents' neighbors, the Kearneys, and their granddaughter Marley join us for our beach outing.
Meme. Yes, that's my grandmother. She came in from Corpus to see us, and we are so lucky that she did. Ripley ADORES her. I loved seeing her and talking about art (she is the original artist in our family). She is going to paint a picture of a beach house for Ripley's surfer girl-themed room. Cool. While Meme was in town, we all went to the Star Drug Store for lunch. This is the old pharmacy and soda fountain that was owned and run by Meme's dad for years and years. It has recently been reopened and this was our first look at the place. What memories we all have of the Star. It's just darling, the food is good, and it's inexpensive! What a deal.
Hanging out in the backyard. After all of these other great destinations, Ripley's favorite thing of all is playing in LaLa and Fwey's backyard.
So, after all of this goofing off in the month of June, I feel terribly behind on all kinds things, both little and big. Have I been doing too much RELAXing? I never thought that could be the case, but maybe, just maybe...Don't get me wrong. I'm still all about RELAX, but I think I need to get a bit more focused again.
I'm sure I'll get to that focusing thing sooner or later.
